Sarawak Gold 1 (SG1) is Malaysia's premier pineapple variety — uniquely developed and commercially pioneered in Miri, Sarawak. Faster growth. Higher yield. World-class quality.
Sarawak Gold 1 (SG1) is a hybrid pineapple variety uniquely developed and introduced in Sarawak, Malaysia. The result of intensive research and a dedicated breeding program, SG1 combines the finest qualities of existing pineapple varieties into one exceptional fruit.
Officially launched on 14 February 2023 at the TG Agro Fruits plantation in Sungai Tukau, Miri — in the presence of Sarawak's Minister of Food Industries, Commodities and Regional Development — SG1 has since become a symbol of Sarawak's agricultural innovation.
With its golden-orange skin, sweet and juicy flesh, and zero residual fibre, SG1 is ideal for fresh consumption, juice processing, and export. Its cylindrical shape meets global packaging and export standards.
SG1 outperforms conventional pineapple varieties on every measurable dimension — from farm productivity to market appeal.
SG1 reaches harvest in just 8–9 months — significantly faster than Moris (12 months) and MD2 (14–16 months). Two harvest rounds in two years is achievable, dramatically increasing farmer income.
Compact plant size allows up to 22,000 plants per acre — more than double conventional varieties. This translates directly into higher yields per hectare and superior returns on land investment.
Golden-orange in colour with sweet, juicy, crunchy flesh and absolutely no residual fibre or pulp. The cylindrical fruit shape is perfectly suited for canning, processing, and international export standards.
SG1 produces an abundance of suckers (pups) per plant, enabling rapid scaling of cultivation across Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia. LPNM projects 11.9 million certified suckers available by 2026.
A cohesive group of companies leading every stage of the SG1 value chain — from cultivation and propagation to distribution, contract farming, and market development.
The first and foremost commercial cultivator of SG1 pineapples in Malaysia. TG Agro Fruits broke ground in 2021 at Sungai Tukau, Miri — transforming 10 initial hectares into a 200-acre flagship SG1 plantation. The farm's official opening in August 2024 was graced by Malaysia's Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, cementing its status as the nation's SG1 centre of excellence.
The agribusiness arm of the group, TG Agribusiness specialises in supplying premium SG1 planting materials, agricultural consultation, and plantation development support. Registered since 2006 and based in Kampung Riam Jaya, Miri, TG Agribusiness provides the technical backbone enabling rapid and successful SG1 expansion across the region.
Ning Planters serves as the anchor company for SG1 contract farming in Sarawak. In November 2024, Ning Planters signed a landmark MoU with Agrobank and Sarawak Incorporated Sdn Bhd to drive pineapple industry growth — financing infrastructure, recruiting smallholders, and providing a guaranteed buyback scheme to empower B40 agropreneurs with monthly incomes of RM 4,000–RM 7,000.
A strategic joint venture between Ning Planters Sdn Bhd and PPNS (Sarawak State Farmers' Organisation), Peladang Ning was established to accelerate SG1 adoption among Sarawak's smallholder farming community. Its primary mission is to supply certified SG1 suckers (pups) to smallholders, with a 100-acre planting agreement at Jalan Tukau, Bakam signed in June 2023.
Turns Green Agriculture extends the SG1 movement into Sabah, bringing the same high-yield cultivation model to the east Malaysian state. Based in Papar, Sabah, the company is dedicated to SG1 pineapple cultivation, expanding the variety's footprint beyond Sarawak and strengthening the group's position as the leading SG1 cultivator across Borneo.
From first planting to national exports — the SG1 story is one of vision, persistence, and growing momentum.

Malaysia's pineapple industry faces a structural supply-demand gap that SG1 is uniquely positioned to close. Global demand for Malaysian pineapples stands at 4,000 containers — yet the country supplies only 800, just one-fifth of the market need.
Recognised nationally — from Bernama to Borneo Post, SG1's journey has been closely followed by Malaysia's leading media.
